This time last week

This is where I was:

After we dropped Sarah off at Alabama, I took another mini-road trip down to Baton Rouge to stay with my cousin Claire. Monday morning we biked around downtown BR. Their apartment is right around the corner from the Capitol.

I felt like a 5th grader on a school trip to visit the capitol... because it's been about that long since I've seen it this close.

We also saw this cool thing…

Claire told me she still doesn't know what it is, or what it's used for...

Epic weekend.

Posted by cjaxon on August 18, 2010

I think I’ve been way too long-winded on the past few posts, so I’ll keep this one to the point.

I went home this weekend to help move my younger sister in to college in Alabama. What a weekend. As soon as we got back, I went down to Baton Rouge to spend the day around town and in New Orleans with Betsie and Claire.

2100 miles.

85% humidity.

35 hours on the road.

17 cups of coffee.

6 days.

5 cities.

What I’ve learned this summer.

Posted by cjaxon on August 13, 2010

I was going to post something about the second half of my summer, but between the President of the World post and the High School Musical post, that’s basically it. July became a month of “Work/Perform/Hang out all weekend long, then recover mon-wed and do it all again.” Things have finally slowed down, alot. The shows are over. I’ve only been working at the Beatnix fri/sat mornings. The youth’s big projects are done. The summer classes are over. And while I learned alot in those classes, I learned just as much, as always, from real life. Some of it’s about acting, much is about dealing with people, some is about myself, and some is just, well… unique. Here’s a sampling.

It takes work (intention), as an actor, to keep it fresh every time.

I, as an actor, can’t for a second stray from being in the moment – there’s no such thing as autopilot. I’ll screw up what I’m doing.

Making latte art is hard. Just getting the milk right is tough.

There might be a particular way someone makes their sandwich. But come on, it’s a sandwich. I can make a sandwich. Read the rest of this entry »

Summer School at East High: The Start of Something New.

Posted by cjaxon on August 10, 2010

High School Musical is over now, which means all my major projects for the summer have come to a close. What an experience! Who’d have thought I would have enjoyed performing in a cliché Disney show so much??

I played Ryan Evans, twin brother to Sharpay, who together are the STARS of the Drama Club. So without any further ado, here’s

Becoming Ryan: The Many Faces of Fabulous.

The first of 6 different outfits. This show had to be the most costume changes for a single character I've ever done.

Summer Playlist, 2010

Posted by cjaxon on August 5, 2010

This isn’t a playlist of like, the hottest new songs of 2010. These are just what I’ve been listening to, from May to today. I’m actually pretty proud – there’s a nice variety of styles and artists. Most of them are 3 years old or more, but hey, better late than never. Comment and tell me what you think! Some of them are links to a good youtube page if you wanna hear them. Summer 2010 pt 1.

Posted by cjaxon on August 2, 2010

This one’s mostly for the people back home, who perhaps haven’t known where I’ve been all summer, and almost definitely don’t know what I’ve been doing. Let me say, it’s been a long summer, but not much of a break. Mostly just “not-school.” Except that I was even taking classes, so it was school too. Here’s what’s gone down. (And it’s pretty long, so I’ll split it into two posts.)

For starters, SARAH AND SPENCER GRADUATED!!! I made a quick trip down to see them walk. Well family, this is it. The Von Vancils have all grown up, and our collective childhoods are over. It’s bittersweet, and I hope all the best for the future. As tight as we’ve been so far, I don’t see us having a problem keeping in touch.

Adult Von Vancils!!
